Objectives of JAMP
Coordinating the partnership
- Form a partnership with participating students, medical schools and institutions of higher education that facilitates program implementations
- Recruit eligible undergraduate students for admission into the program
- Establish an application process for admission to the program
- Evaluate applications for admissions to JAMP
- Monitor the program's implementation
- Assist in developing services to support and encourage the participants to pursue a medical education
- Award undergraduate scholarships and summer stipends, including a summer stipend for
students required to participate in internship programs during the summer immediately after the senior year - Award graduate (medical school) scholarships
- Annually admit to the program six (may vary depending on state budget) eligible freshmen from each general academic teaching institution
- Allocate 10 percent of the total program openings on a rotation basis to private or independent institutions of higher education
- Allocate the remaining program openings to general academic teaching institutions in proportion to the average size of each institution's entering freshman class during the preceding four-year period
- Match each JAMP student to a participating medical school for an undergraduate mentoring program
- Match each JAMP student with internship programs offered by participating medical schools during the summers immediately following the student's freshman, sophomore and junior years
- During a participating student's senior year, match the student with an appropriate participating medical school at which the student will enroll
- Accommodate, when possible, the preferences of JAMP students regarding medical school placement
